Monolith dining set
Shortlisted for the New Furniture Makers Design Award, the Monolith dining set was conceived as a single, minimal form intended to sit quietly when not in use, but provide a comfortable dining experience when called upon.

More function, less noise
In our house the dining table only ever gets used on special occasions or when we have guests. The rest of the time we use a tray and sit on the sofa in front of the telly. It’s a little embarrassing to admit, but probably not unusual.
Despite this very occasional use, dining sets demand a lot of space. And it’s not just their size - they’re visually noisy objects, making our homes feel messy and cluttered even when we have adequate room to accommodate them.
I wanted to design a set of dining chairs which could slide under the dining table to create a single, minimal form. The simplicity of the form helps to emphasise the beautiful medullary rays present in both the table top and chairs.
